Three science-backed strategies to change negative thinking

You can change negative thoughts by identifying the thinking trap you are stuck in and practicing 3 different strategies to overcome a negative mindset.

How often do your negative thoughts get in your way? Does your negative focus make you feel chronically pessimistic, hopeless, angry, or resentful?

The cool thing is that this is a learned skill! You can learn to control your focus so you don’t get stuck in a mental trap.

You can use three strategies to overcome negative thought patterns:

  1. Challenge your evidence – is the proof you are using to confirm your dark thought an opinion or interpretation? If so, it’s not fact! This strategy helps you see how irrational your thoughts are and redirects your focus.
  2. Reframe the counterproductive thought. This strategy stops the runaway train.
  3. Plan. This strategy uses the most-likely scenario to help you plan what you will do if the realistic worst-case happens, enabling you to stop worrying because you have a plan!
